SERVICES >> WHAT WE DO

At PT Works, we start by performing a full body evaluation, summarizing the abnormal movement patterns and restrictions; developing a treatment plan with estimated number of treatments needed and estimated time to return to desired activities; hands-on treatments that can include soft tissue mobilization with the hands or Graston Technique; joint mobilization; passive and active stretching; strength training; postural training; and kinesiology taping. Susan places great emphasis on developing a strong home program with the patient to allow them to be actively involved with their recovery and rehab so they can continue to participate in their sport or activities with modifications during their rehabilitation.

WHAT IS GRASTON TECHNIQUE? >>

The Graston Technique incorporates a patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively detect and treat scar tissue and restrictions that affect normal function.

Scar tissue limits range of motion and in many instances causes pain, which prevents the patient from functioning as he or she did before the injury. The Graston Technique instruments are used to enhance the clinician’s ability to detect adhesions, scar tissue or restrictions in the affected areas. Skilled clinicians use the stainless steel instruments to comb over and “catch” on fibrotic tissue, which immediately identifies the areas of restriction. Once the tissue has been identified, the instruments are used to break up the scar tissue so it can be absorbed by the body.

The Graston Technique has had positive outcomes in 75-90 percent of all conditions treated. It is equally effective in restoring function to acute and chronic injuries, and pre and postsurgical patients.

WHAT IS KINESIOLOLOGY TAPING? >>

Kinesiology taping is a specialized method of therapeutic and rehabilitative taping which uses a specific tape to give support and stability to your joints and muscles without affecting circulation and range of motion. It is used for preventative maintanence, to reduce edema and swelling, to reduce pain, enhance performance, aid in recovery, and re-educate the neuromuscular system. Kinesiology taping can be used on a variety of musculoskeletal problems and can be modified to address a wide range of concerns. The method involves taping over and around muscles in order to assist and give support to muscles or to prevent over-contraction of muscles, depending on patient presentation. Kinesiology taping can easily be integrated into a patients’ existing treatment plan and works effectively in conjunction with the Graston Technique.
